ChallEnge:
Stabilizing a financially fragile institution while preserving its deeply personal and mission-driven spirit. The school faced mounting liabilities, inefficient operations, and political risks stemming from legacy investors seeking control. Navigating these hurdles demanded not only strategic acumen but emotional resilience — balancing the urgent need for professional rigor with the responsibility of safeguarding a family-founded vision. The weight of steering an alternative education model through financial turmoil and governance threats, all while honoring its purpose for students who learn differently, made the task both uniquely complex and deeply personal.
RESULTS:
Despite these pressures, the results were transformative. I led a successful $2.5 million capital raise, restructured operations to reduce liabilities by 34%, and implemented strategic improvements that increased annual net profits by 20%. These initiatives culminated in Winstedt achieving its first profitable year since expansion, marking a financial and operational turning point. Perhaps most critically, by neutralizing a hostile takeover attempt through an equity buyback at a >10x discount to fair value, I ensured the school’s independence and protected its founding mission. Today, Winstedt stands not only as a thriving institution for diverse learners but as proof that purpose-driven education can be financially sustainable and strategically resilient.
The Winstedt School Singapore: Redefining Education for Diverse Learners
The Winstedt School in Singapore is not just another private institution; it is a purpose-built sanctuary for students who learn differently. Founded with the vision of bridging a critical gap in traditional education models, Winstedt offers a holistic K–12 program tailored specifically to the needs of diverse learners — providing the structure, creativity, and empathy many mainstream schools overlook.

At its core, Winstedt is defined by its mission: no child should be left behind because they don’t fit a conventional mold. The school’s integrated approach, small class sizes, specialist teachers, and therapeutic support ecosystem create an environment where individuality is honored and potential is unlocked.
Beyond its educational philosophy, Winstedt’s operational and financial evolution stands as a case study in strategic transformation. During my tenure as Director and CFO from 2018 onward:
I led a $2.5 million fundraise to secure the school’s growth runway.
I executed a full financial audit and restructured the business model, slashing liabilities by more than 34%.
I diagnosed operational inefficiencies and implemented initiatives that increased net profit by 20% annually.
I oversaw Winstedt’s first profitable year since its expansion three years prior.
I defended the school’s independence by neutralizing a hostile takeover attempt, orchestrating an equity buyback at a greater than 10x discount to the company’s Net Present Value.
These milestones were not merely financial wins — they protected and reinforced Winstedt’s core mission: to remain a safe haven for students often underserved by traditional systems.
Today, The Winstedt School stands as a beacon for alternative education in Asia. Its strength lies not only in its specialized academic approach but in the resilience, foresight, and integrity with which it is run. In a world where educational institutions are increasingly homogenized, Winstedt’s unwavering commitment to individualized learning makes it a rare and vital force.
